A small reference notebook
Keep a small site self-contained
Start with a file list
A small static site can be understood as a list of documents and the resources they use. Keep that list short and explicit. Check that every internal link points to a real document, and that a missing document produces a clear not-found response.
Prefer local essentials
A local style sheet and a small icon are often enough. Every remote dependency adds another availability and privacy decision. Consider whether it contributes enough to justify that dependency before adding it to a page that otherwise needs only plain text.
Review the published tree
Review what will actually be published, rather than only the working directory used to create it. Drafts, local configuration and logs do not belong in a public file tree. Keeping publication separate from editing makes that boundary easier to see.
