A small reference notebook
Make a page easy to read
Begin with the text
A useful page should remain useful before decoration is added. Give it a specific title, a short introduction and headings that describe the content below them. Readers should be able to decide where to go without interpreting a collection of vague labels.
Allow room to breathe
A comfortable line length and visible space between paragraphs make dense material less tiring. Test a narrow window as well as a wide one. A design that looks balanced on a large screen can hide links or force horizontal scrolling on a smaller screen.
Use ordinary links
Keep navigation visible and make link text meaningful on its own. A reader should be able to use the page without a script or an account. Styling can support that task, but it should not become a prerequisite for understanding the text.
